The Camp Olson Boathouse has become home to one of the Midwest’s premier sailing programs. Situated on the North shore of Little Boy Lake, we are fortunate to receive consistent onshore winds ideal for learning to sail and to windsurf. A wide range of crafts are available from the learner-friendly Sunfish on up to our sleek 28 foot E Scows. Along with our bright and experienced staff, Sailing campers have great opportunity to hone their skills whether novice or expert.
Sailing Camp: Ages 11-15
Sailing Camp participants will learn basic sailing principles through a hands-on and experiential approach. This will include instruction in the basics of sailing theory, boat parts and equipment, and sailing terminology. Sailors will gain first-hand knowledge by sailing aboard our fleet of Sunfish and big boats. Like all Camp Olson youth programs, afternoons are free for campers to elect their own activities. In addition to getting the general Camp “O” experience, sailing campers will to learn to grow in self-confidence and awareness as they challenge themselves to earn progressive awards in sailing achievement.
Windsurf Academy: Ages 13-15
The Big O Boathouse has an array of beginner to advanced Windsurf equipment ideal for learning through progression. Windsurfers will start with land based and in the water training with our experienced instructors during each morning while at Camp. Afternoons are free to enjoy all our other great programs.
Skipper In Training: Ages 15-17
Camp Olson Skippers in Training have the opportunity to hone their sailing skills with our knowledgeable boathouse staff. SIT’s will also get to go behind the scenes of Camp Olson’s premier sailing program where they will gain teaching skills and boat maintenance knowledge.
